Let us unite to uphold "Unity in Diversity" - the spirit, vision and provisions of the Constitution of India.
The Reports about few resolutions in the Palani Conference are direct assault on the education.
Education is a secular activity. School Students are children in formative ages. They come to school for critical learning.
A classroom in a school, under whichever management it functions, consists of students coming from the families following different faiths, with their own forms of worship.
Within a religious group, different families have different forms of worship and follow different text.
Students cannot be and should not be involved in any religious activities.
Religion is purely personal. An individual has every right to believe and follow any faith.
Faith cannot be questioned or critiqued.
Science critically evaluates every aspect of life. Science demands reasoning for every action. Education leads one to critically evaluate.
Scriptures considered holy cannot be and should not be part of school activities.
Classrooms must continue to remain secular. Students should not be made to read or recite or perform religious text in religious events.
Schools cannot and should not influence students to choose a particular way of worship or worshiping a particular deity in a particular form.
Tamil Nadu has a diverse culture. People worship in different forms.
A single form of worship and identifying a single deity with Tamil culture are alien to Tamil culture.
Landforms and climate contribute to the growth of culture in any part of the world and that is the experience of Tamil society. Form of Worship is a component of culture.
Mono Cultural approach is dangerous and will be a threat to the time tested spirit of Unity in Diversity.
The School Education Department should take note of serious consequences and should ensure the schools functioning in Tamil Nadu are not communalised and no religious text is involved in any form in any school that is either recognised, or that functions based on NOC issued, by the School Education Department, Government of Tamil Nadu.
HR & CE is only the manager of the school with administrative and financial autonomy.
The academic activities are decided by the academic bodies under the Department of School Education.
HR & CE should not intrude in the academic issues that include curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular.
Fraternal spirit is the hallmark of Tamil Culture. The Government of Tamil Nadu should not allow any kind of activities that may lead to polarization of the society.
