      Sis cackling thaniya patha verb tha sis...intha sentence gerund ah use panirkaga....Ex.Swimming is good for health...here Swimming is a noun or subject nu solluvam....gerund means verb mari eruka kudiya oru noun nu sollalam..easy ah sollanumna -ing form la varathu yellam gerund nu solluvaga....

      Moni sis, regarding 2nd question, am aware that gerund us something which can be written in infinitive form also.. As per the question actual subject is geese alone, the word cackle is verb but when we get in to the case if subject and predicate, then what yiu have given may be correct.. So only asked sis..

      Question must have been framed as separation if subject and predicate, subject edhunu ketadhala geese alone than varum, because cackling is verb, action verb ilaya adhu,adhan naa kettaen sis.. If it was like subject and predicate then it's fine sis..

      Yes sis u r rit, geese is noun, my very first diubt was cackling is a verb know, then how it came under subject, so when its the case of separating in to subject and predicate, subject becomes verb+noun, thats what am trying to say.. Generally it won't be the case, this is an exemption, am I right sis..

      No sis.oru sentence la How? Where? When? Why? Intha questions ku answer pana antha word ah nama adjunt nu solluvam...you ask the question to the sentence When the farmer or his servents are working? U can get the answer as 'always'...so always is an adjunct...

    Anonymous ma'am, if 'cackling' is a verb, it should be preceded by a 'be form' verb, since it is in Continuous tense. Cackling is a gerund. In Tamil it is தொழிற்பெயர். 'Cackling of geese' is a phrase which should be considered as the subject. That phrase can be replaced with 'the sound of geese'. So we should not separate cackling and geese as different words, because they are joined by the 'of'.

      Thanks for your explanation.. But hope none understood my point of view.. Am awarw of gerund, but here this particular sentence exempting all the general rules that we use to follow, that is "The word cackling is verb, that too intransitive verb which means its an action verb, it denotes action right, particular action being done by geese, so only I asked how come an action verb is becoming the subject" In general its difficult for all to analyse this question.like this. So we should be aware of these things, that's what I tried to convey..

      One more thing, here "The cackling of geese" of should not be considered as conjunction, it denotes the action done by geese.. so only I said this sentence is very tricky, it's an exemption case..
