Authorities
carrying out relief operations in the flood-affected areas of Jammu and
Kashmir got a helping hand from an unexpected quarter —the RSS and the
BJP. Workers from the two outfits thronged the poll-bound state,
carrying out relief operations in all the three regions of the state —
Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
“We
have asked all our state units to send worked to J&K to carry out
relief activities there. Our state unit is also making an assessment of
the scale of relief operation that is required. All help is being
provided,” Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha chief and BJP MP Anurag Thakur
told HT.
The
RSS claimed Sewa Bharati, an organisation run by swayamsevaks, too has
extended its help in the flood-hit regions. “Hundreds of karyakartas
working day and night to rescue thousands of people trapped, arranging
the last rites of the dead, building temporary shelter for the homeless,
distributing blankets & warm clothes, medical aid etc,” a press
note from the outfit said.
Vagish
Issar, member of Indraprastha Vishwa Samwad Kendra, RSS’ media arm,
claimed ‘thousands’ of workers were running relief camps. “Those from
the outside the trying to reach there as soon as possible and as closer
to affected people as they can,” he said.
RSS
leaders added that the road connectivity between Jammu and the valley
was snapped off but their workers were taking alternate routes to reach
the affected areas.
